Matthew Pengelly has over 30 years’ experience within the health and fitness industry, in which he has built up a wealth of knowledge, a respected rapport and a strong base of contacts. He has been Managing Director of Matrix Fitness UK for seven years, and during this time has celebrated the company becoming the fastest growing commercial equipment supplier in the world, whilst supporting operators such as; PureGym, The Gym Group, JD Gyms, Planet Fitness, BasicFit and Snap Fitness to name a few.
Matthew spent the first 10 years of his career in an operator role for Holmes Place Health Clubs where he was responsible for opening and managing clubs across the UK, Europe and North America allowing him to fully understand the needs and challenges of operators first-hand.
Having been a Managing Director of multiple global equipment suppliers, Matthew understands the complexities of managing direct subsidiaries and distribution partners and the effects this can have on supporting direct customers. He has a wealth of skills, expertise and experience, knowing what it takes to overcome the various challenges faced by suppliers of fitness equipment in an ever-changing industry.
He is a strategic leader with the experience necessary to overcome challenges, build upon momentum, maximise opportunities and elevate companies to the next level of success. He is passionate about not only providing the best possible fitness equipment to the market, but also to pioneer leading customer service and personalised experiences so that more and more people are encouraged into fitness and activity in order to help promote healthier, happier lifestyles for the long-term, aligning perfectly with ukactive’s mission to increase physical activity and the health of the nation. Matthew also recognises the positive impact of a mentally-healthy workforce too, that’s why, in partnership with MH1, Matrix has invested in mental health training for key staff to recognise issues and signpost employees to seek help.
