Introduction
The Next Generation strategy sets out ukactive’s plan to get one million more children and young people active by 2030, addressing widening inequalities in activity levels—only 42% of the least affluent children meet CMO guidelines compared with 52% of the most affluent. The strategy emphasises improving standards, guidance and investment across gyms, leisure centres, schools and community settings, supported by The Active Standard. It highlights rising participation since COVID‑19, including 908,000 more young people in gym and fitness activity, and prioritises quality assurance, workforce skills, data insights, future‑user research and policy reform to expand access, affordability and long‑term physical activity habits.
