The Active Standard (also known as TAS) is a quality mark for the physical activity sector, developed by ukactive and its partners. The Active Standard is here to help you instil consumer confidence in the safety and inclusivity of your fitness and leisure facilities. Whether you’re a gym, leisure centre, or sports facility, The Active Standard offers a simple yet comprehensive certification process to ensure your operations meet the right industry standards.

How The Active Standard works

The Active Standard is available to all ukactive operator members, no matter what size or whether you operate in the private or public sector. The assessment process is included in your membership fee and is a mandatory requirement for all ukactive operator members. Once you begin the onboarding process, you’ll be guided through the 40-question syllabus, covering key assessment areas such as:

  • Health and Safety Compliance 
  • Safeguarding Facilities 
  • Data Protection 
  • Professional Standards  

Upon successful completion, you’ll achieve certification to The Active Standard, which is valid for three years. After three years, you’ll need to be re-assessed to ensure standards are maintained.

A Foundation for Excellence 

The Active Standard forms the foundation of your risks and standards journey. From here you can continue to elevate your standards through other sector schemes such as Quest and FITcert.

If your facility has already achieved either of these certifications, you may automatically quality for The Active Standard, providing this meets the assessment sampling metric used for The Active Standard (the square root of the total numbers of sites you operate).
