To celebrate Dydd Cenedlaethol Ffitrwydd 2026, we’re shining a spotlight on the organisations helping more people become more active more often.

Here, we speak to Tony Eames, Founder of Total Active Hub, about why the organisation has partnered with ukactive to launch a dedicated workplace movement activation programme for National Fitness Day, helping employers inspire healthier habits that last.

Why did Total Active Hub want to get involved with National Fitness Day?

We’ve always believed the workplace has a huge role to play in improving the nation’s health. People spend a significant proportion of their lives at work, yet many organisations struggle to engage employees in physical activity in a way that’s truly inclusive and sustainable.

National Fitness Day is already an incredible moment that inspires millions of people to move, so partnering with ukactive to extend that momentum into workplaces felt like a natural fit. We want to help organisations turn a day of inspiration into lasting behaviour change.

Tell us about the workplace initiative you’ve launched.

Together with ukactive, we’ve launched 20/20 – a free workplace movement programme encouraging employees to be active for just 20 minutes a day for 20 days.

The challenge is deliberately simple. Every type of movement counts, whether that’s walking, cycling, swimming, gardening, yoga or simply taking a lunchtime walk.

It’s designed so that everyone can participate, regardless of age, ability or fitness level. Rather than focusing on athletic performance, the goal is to help people build healthier habits.

Why do you think this approach is important?

Many workplace wellbeing initiatives unintentionally appeal to people who are already active. We wanted to remove any barriers.

By asking people to move for just 20 minutes each day, the challenge sets a goal that feels achievable for almost everyone and that is explicitly encouraged by employers. When colleagues participate together, it also creates conversations, stronger social connections and a shared sense of purpose across teams.

Sometimes the smallest changes can have the biggest impact.

What impact have you seen through your work?

We’ve now worked with organisations across healthcare, transport, financial services and technology, supporting thousands of employees to become more active in over 120 countries.

Across our programmes, employees average more than 300 minutes of activity every week – double the NHS minimum guidelines.

Among participants, we’ve seen:

  • 96% say the programme improves engagement with colleagues
  • 76% report feeling more energised
  • 87% say they feel more motivated to be active with colleagues

Perhaps most importantly, we’ve consistently seen people who previously described themselves as inactive begin incorporating regular movement into their weekly routine.

Why should organisations get involved with National Fitness Day?

National Fitness Day gives every organisation the opportunity and initiative to start the conversation about movement.

No matter the size of your organisation, it’s a chance to bring people together around something positive, inclusive and accessible.

The physical benefits are well understood, but movement also improves mental health, social connection, energy, confidence and workplace culture.

If National Fitness Day helps someone discover an activity they enjoy, that’s a fantastic outcome and exactly what the campaign exists to do.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

This is the first time there’s been a dedicated workplace movement delivered via a digital activation programme supporting National Fitness Day, which is incredibly exciting.

We’re looking forward to seeing organisations across every sector joining forces with the physical activity sector to demonstrate that creating healthier, more active lifestyles doesn’t need to be complicated.

If thousands of employees spend just 20 minutes moving each day, the collective impact on wellbeing, workplace culture and long-term health could be significant.

For us, that’s what National Fitness Day is all about.
