We welcome the \u00a363m package of <a href=\"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/cy\/news\/ukactive-responds-to-governments-swimming-pool-financial-support-announcement\/\">cymorth ariannol<\/a> that will help parts of the sector most exposed to the increase in energy prices, helping retain services and keep facilities open, especially swimming pools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, there are a range of measures announced in the Budget \u2013 notably additional funding for wraparound childcare, the apprenticeship scheme for over 50s, and full expensing tax relief \u2013 that could support both our members and their customers, and we will analyse these proposals in more detail and assess their connection to our members\u2019 work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chancellor\u2019s focus on supporting people with long-term health conditions is of relevance to our members,\u00a0and it is especially positive to see the commitment for the scaling up of <a href=\"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/cy\/news\/trailblazing-pilot-sees-musculoskeletal-programme-expand-to-100-leisure-centres-as-ukactive-ramps-up-activity-therapy-service\/\">musculoskeletal (MSK) hubs<\/a> which is a project ukactive and partners have been driving forward in pilot phase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, there are certain parts of the sector that remain vulnerable due to the energy crisis and dialogue with the Government will continue on their behalf. Furthermore, we remain fully committed to working with the Government to secure vital reforms on both business rates and VAT which currently hold back the growth of parts of our sector and suppress access to physical activity for many.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chancellor\u2019s focus on greater regulatory liberty post-Brexit must extend to our sector and the Government must address the fact that our closest trading partner, Ireland, has a VAT rate of just 9% on fitness and leisure services. The presented benefits of Brexit must extend to our sector as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, the\u00a0Prime Minister should set a national mission for health improvement that places sport, recreation, and physical activity at its heart. There is a real opportunity to create a credible strategy that unlocks the potential of the sector and allows it to play its fullest role in the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recap: Key asks within ukactive\u2019s Spring Budget 2023 submission<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Provide immediate support for gyms, pools, and leisure centres to deal with the current energy crisis and provide long-term capital investment to future proof facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce VAT to 5% for fitness and leisure businesses.<\/li>\n<li>Raise the limit for business rate support to include larger gyms, leisure centres and physical activity providers.<\/li>\n<li>Provide funding to expand the musculoskeletal hub pilot scheme across the UK and embed the use of physical activity facilities for NHS services within Integrated Care Systems.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a long-term funding commitment for PE and school sport, to get every child active for sixty minutes a day.<\/li>\n<li>Invest in sustainable facilities, including support for adoption of green technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Extend the Cycle to Work scheme to include a wider array of physical activity
