{"id":19415,"date":"2020-07-30T12:25:38","date_gmt":"2020-07-30T11:25:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/news\/ukactive-response-to-scottish-governments-announcement-on-reopening-fitness-and-leisure-sector\/"},"modified":"2026-03-23T17:03:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:03:46","slug":"ukactive-response-to-scottish-governments-announcement-on-reopening-fitness-and-leisure-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/cy\/news\/ukactive-response-to-scottish-governments-announcement-on-reopening-fitness-and-leisure-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"ukactive response to Scottish Government\u2019s announcement on reopening fitness and leisure sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ukactive has issued the following statement in response to the Scottish Government\u2019s\u00a0announcement\u00a0today (30 July) about reopening gyms and leisure facilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meddai Huw Edwards, Prif Weithredwr ukactive:<\/strong> \u201cWe are\u00a0hugely\u00a0disappointed\u00a0and frustrated\u00a0by today\u2019s announcement by the Scottish Government that gyms and leisure facilities will not reopen until 14 September.\u00a0These facilities should be open now, and the sector should be afforded the respect given to other parts of society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur sector deserves clarity but sadly this is lacking from the Government\u2019s actions to date, posing the threat of permanent closure to hundreds of gyms and leisure facilities which provide a vital public health service to communities across Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain\u00a0completely confident in addressing any\u00a0questions\u00a0the Government and health officials may have,\u00a0questions still yet to be raised with the sector,\u00a0based on the comprehensive health and safety\u00a0guidance\u00a0we published and shared with the Government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, we have\u00a0consistently\u00a0invited Government and health officials to visit any of the hundreds of gym and leisure centre show sites across the country, and witness how facilities would operate with thorough social distancing measures and hygiene standards in place.\u00a0This invite should be taken up, as the failure to visit facilities undermines the decision making process within the Scottish Government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreater Government engagement and clarity is now crucial. This is a health crisis, and this sector is safe to reopen and lead the fightback against COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConversations will continue with Government this afternoon to establish a clear
