{"id":19210,"date":"2019-12-05T10:07:20","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T10:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/news\/ukactive-response-to-sport-england-figures-on-activity-levels-of-children-and-young-people\/"},"modified":"2019-12-05T10:07:20","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T10:07:20","slug":"ukactive-response-to-sport-england-figures-on-activity-levels-of-children-and-young-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/cy\/news\/ukactive-response-to-sport-england-figures-on-activity-levels-of-children-and-young-people\/","title":{"rendered":"ukactive response to Sport England figures on activity levels of children and young people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jack Shakespeare, Director of Children, Young People, Families and Research at ukactive, said:<\/strong> \u201cWe welcome the latest insights from Sport England\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportengland.org\/news-and-features\/news\/2019\/december\/05\/active-lives-children-and-young-people-survey-academic-year-201819-report-published\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arolwg Bywydau Cynhyrfus<\/a> on the activity levels of children and young people, which show that out-of-school provision is helping children to be more active.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cukactive\u2019s members are\u00a0clearly\u00a0playing a lead role in delivering out-of-school provision and we remain committed to working side by side with Sport England to make this available to all, regardless of gender, race or affluence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile it is positive to learn that activity levels are increasing for some children and young people, it is clear that stark inequalities remain entrenched for many children across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unacceptable that physical activity levels are lower among girls, children from poorer backgrounds, and those who are black, Asian or from a minority ethnic group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we approach the General Election, the next government must make physical activity opportunities for all children and young people an urgent priority, not just for the physical health of the next generation but for their mental and social health too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur <a href=\"https:\/\/osf.io\/preprints\/sportrxiv\/jd9pv\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ymchwil<\/a> shows that during the summer holidays children\u2019s fitness levels fall by around 74%, and by even more in areas of high deprivation. However, 39% of community sports facilities remain locked behind school gates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government has a duty to protect the most vulnerable in society and we are calling on all parties to invest in our <a href=\"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/cy\/news\/open-our-schools-over-the-holidays-parents-back-ukactive-call-to-unlock-community-facilities\/\">schools as community hubs<\/a> model so that providers can host activities and nutritious lunches over the holidays,\u00a0which can be a particularly tough time for families.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>To find out more
