Every action should be properly resourced, its impact measured and evaluated, and delivered in collaboration with the broad array of passionate, expert organisations that make up the physical activity sector: from schools and children\u2019s activity providers, to local authorities, fitness and community leisure providers, corporates and charities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome the government\u2019s pledge to open up school facilities outside of the school day and during school holidays.\u00a0Schools are one of our most powerful assets in the fight to tackle childhood inactivity yet 39% of sports facilities lie behind school gates and are locked up during the summer holidays. This means children growing up in more disadvantaged communities are \u2013 shamefully \u2013 significantly less likely to have access to out of school provision compared to their more affluent peers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government now has an unmissable opportunity to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2019\/07\/13\/schools-should-kept-open-summer-running-sports-clubs-bid-tackle\/?utm_campaign=10721206_MR%2015-07-2019&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=brothermailer&#038;dm_t=0,0,0,0,0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">work in partnership with the physical activity sector<\/a>\u00a0to truly deliver on this commitment and maximise the use of the school estate.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ukactive.com\/cy\/news\/open-our-schools-over-the-holidays-parents-back-ukactive-call-to-unlock-community-facilities\/\">9 in 10 parents would consider using \u00a0school facilities in the summer holidays for children\u2019s sport and physical activity<\/a>, and ukactive\u2019s School-as-Community Hubs model has proven that schools can deliver safe, meaningful activity opportunities during the summer holidays that improve a range of health, wellbeing and social outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cukactive and its members remain committed to tackling childhood inactivity and working hand-in-hand with government to realise that ambition through the successful delivery of the School Sport and Activity Action Plan.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following publication of the\u00a0School Sport and Activity Action Plan, ukactive has issued the following response.
