Emily Campbell and Paul Corrigan have today (6 February) been announced as headline speakers for Active Uprising 2025, as the full lineup is confirmed for ukactive’s flagship conference.
The Team GB weightlifting champion and the health adviser tasked with shaping the Government’s 10-year health plan will address an audience of leaders from across health, fitness, politics, business and sport at the QE II Centre in Westminster on Thursday 6 March.
Following her memorable appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and her work as an ambassador for National Fitness Day, Emily will discuss her personal journey and her ambitions for the future of health and fitness in our communities.
The Nottingham-born star became the first British woman to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting when she claimed Silver in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. She became European champion in the same year and went on to win Team GB’s 65th and final medal in Paris last summer.
At a pivotal time for the nation’s health, ukactive can also reveal that Paul Corrigan has joined as Active Uprising to offer his insights into the Government’s plans to improve the nation’s health. Paul was appointed strategic adviser to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, in July and tasked with shaping the Government’s 10-year plan for the NHS.
In this session, Paul will join ukactive Chair Mike Farrar, former CEO of the NHS Confederation, on stage to discuss the Government’s ambitions for the future of the health service, the challenges of implementing the plans, and the opportunities for the sector within them.
Emily and Paul join an exciting agenda themed, ‘No Growth Without Health: physical activity’s role in national renewal’. They complete a keynote speaker lineup which features Claire Rollins, Group Director for software; Iain Pringle, Loyalty Consultant and Managing Partner at New World Loyalty; and Mark Shayler, an Innovation and Environmental Adviser.
In the morning, the panel sessions include ‘NHS integration: from hospital to community’ and ‘How can the physical activity sector help address poor health and economic growth?’
In the afternoon, breakout sessions include, ‘A generation of anxious young people: physical activity as a prevention solution’ and ‘In the business of health: powering up partnerships between the physical activity sector and wider business’.
Emily Campbell said: “I’m excited to be speaking at Active Uprising this year and I’m really looking forward to talking about my own journey, but most importantly using my platform to reach even more people to see the value that physical activity and strength training can bring to their everyday lives.
“I’m a huge believer in the power of physical activity to improve the health and opportunities of people of all ages, and it’s such an important challenge for our nation to take on.”
Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: “We are delighted to announce that Emily and Paul will speak at Active Uprising, which promises to set the direction for the future of our nation’s health, wellbeing and economic growth.
“Emily and Paul bring unrivalled insight from their respective worlds, but with the shared ambition to improve the health and happiness of our population.
“This year’s conference promises to deliver incredible learning and networking opportunities that will be hugely valuable for organisations right across our sector.”
