Coalition of health experts calls for cross-government strategy to tackle UK's multi-billion pound physical inactivity problem. Personal trainers should be on hand in every GP surgery and Jobcentre as part of a multi-pronged plan to tackle the UK's physical inactivity pandemic. The call comes as part of the first ever joined-up strategy for tackling lack of exercise across society, estimated to cause 37,000 deaths annually and cost the economy £20billion per year.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Chair of ukactive, has today called on the Department of Health to make Turning the Tide of Inactivity one of its main priorities for the upcoming year.
The challenge was made in the final section of her keynote speech at the Everybody Active, Every Day: One Year On conference earlier on today, when she highlighted "the letter setting out Public Health England's Remit for the year, sent by the Minister for Public Health, is yet to include physical activity as a standalone issue. This has to change next year."
